Itinerary of our Lofoten Photo Tour

Our carefully crafted Lofoten photo tour itinerary is designed to maximize your photographic opportunities while immersing you in the raw beauty of the Arctic. Each day is thoughtfully planned to take advantage of the best light, weather conditions, and natural phenomena, including chasing Northern Lights (always finger crossed), moody but not less beautiful days with dramatic mountain landscapes, golden skies, frozen fjords, and iconic fishing villages.

We keep our schedule flexible to adapt to changing weather and optimize for the most stunning shots. With local knowledge and experienced photo guides (almost 10 years traveling and photographing Lofoten every year), you’ll be in the right place at the right time, whether it’s chasing the Aurora at night or capturing golden hour over snow-draped peaks.

Get ready for a visual journey through one of the world’s most photogenic regions, here’s what your Arctic adventure looks like.

Day 1: Arrival – Evenes

Our adventure begins as we gather at Evenes Airport (EVE), where you’ll meet your fellow travelers and photography mentors.

Once everyone’s arrived at the airport hotel, we’ll spend a night there before begin the scenic drive southwest toward the breathtaking Lofoten Islands on February 16. This first stretch is the perfect time to relax, get to know one another, and talk through the exciting itinerary that awaits us.

If we’re lucky with the weather and arrive with enough daylight, we’ll kick things off right away with a sunset shoot and who knows, maybe even catch our first glimpse of the Northern Lights on the very first night.

Day 2-4: Reine

Our minivan leaves the basecamp bright and early and we will explore the historic village of Reine, quite possibly Lofoten’s most prized jewel. We will photograph all the iconic viewpoints, traditional fisherman cabins, jagged granite mountains, colorful fjords and lots more. The surrounding area and islands are extremely picturesque and we will spend the entire days exploring new angles and perspectives. Highlights include locations such as Flakstad (Skagsanden), Fredvang, Nusfjord, Å, Ramberg, Selfjord and more.

Day 5-7: Leknes

During the final leg of our journey, we’ll base ourselves in the heart of the Lofoten Island: Leknes, a location that offers quick access to some of the archipelago’s most iconic and photogenic landscapes. Over these days, we’ll immerse ourselves in the surreal beauty of Utakleiv, Haukland, Unstad, and Vik, beaches famous worldwide for their dramatic mountain backdrops, pristine sands, and perfect alignment for capturing aurora borealis displays.

These beaches take on an entirely new personality in winter. The golden Arctic light at sunrise and sunset transforms the snow, dusted shores into painterly scenes, perfect for long exposures, minimal compositions, and moody seascapes. We'll guide you in mastering both classic wide-angle scenes and more intimate, abstract approaches.

Day 8: Departure – Evenes

After one final breakfast together, we’ll pack up and begin the journey back to Evenes Airport (EVE). The drive offers a peaceful transition, a last look at the snow-covered mountains, quiet fjords, and the serene Arctic light that defined our week. Along the way, there’s time to reflect on the moments we shared: the thrill of the Northern Lights dancing overhead, the crisp silence of a frozen beach at sunrise, and the creative breakthroughs sparked by the raw beauty of the Lofoten landscape.

We'll make sure you arrive at the airport with plenty of time before your flight, safely transported and fully recharged with memories, new friendships, and a collection of powerful images that will tell the story of your Arctic adventure for years to come.

DISCLAIMER

The tour is always dependent on weather, as the Arctic weather can indeed be highly unpredictable. When it comes to the Northern Lights, while they are most likely to be seen between September and April, there is no guarantee that they will appear on a given day. There is however always plenty to see and do if conditions do not favor any part of our original plan.
