Namibia Photo Tour : Desert, Wildlife and starry skies
12 Days / 11 Nights Photography Workshop with Isabella Tabacchi and Alex Wides
Namibia is one of the most extraordinary countries on Earth for photography: a place of endless space, ancient deserts, sculptural trees, ghost towns, dramatic coastlines and wildlife moving through dust and golden light.
This 12-day Namibia Photo Tour is designed for photographers who want to experience the country beyond a standard safari and classic photography session. The itinerary combines a full immersion landscape photography course and Namibia’s most iconic photographic locations: Etosha National Park, the Skeleton Coast region, Spitzkoppe, Sossusvlei, Deadvlei, Kolmanskop and the Quiver Tree Forest.
Our philosophy is to provide full assistance throughout the entire photography tour, so you will not only bring home beautiful images, but also new knowledge, improved skills and a deeper understanding of landscape photography.
From the wildlife of Etosha to the silence of Deadvlei, from abandoned rooms filled with desert sand to granite mountains under the stars, this journey is created to help you build a powerful and personal portfolio of Namibia.
This is a photography workshop focused on light, composition, mood, storytelling and emotional impact.
What Makes This Namibia Photo Tour Different?
Many Namibia tours visit the same famous places. The difference is how they are experienced, photographed and transformed into a personal body of work. This workshop is built around a more artistic, educational and portfolio-oriented approach.
Full Photography Assistance
You will receive guidance in the field throughout the tour. Isabella will help you with composition, lens choice, light interpretation and creative decisions, so every location becomes an opportunity to improve.
Portfolio-Oriented Itinerary
The route is designed to create variety and coherence in your final body of work: wildlife, desert landscapes, ghost towns, coastal atmosphere, granite formations, night skies and ancient trees.
Emotional Landscape Photography
The goal is not only to capture beautiful views, but to create images with atmosphere, depth, storytelling and emotional impact.
Iconic Locations at the Best Light
We will prioritize photography sessions around sunrise, sunset, blue hour and night conditions whenever possible, always adapting the schedule to light, weather and local access.
Small Group Experience
A limited group allows better mobility, less distraction and more personal attention in the field, creating a more focused and flexible workshop experience.
Beyond the Standard Safari
Etosha is part of the journey, but this is not only a wildlife safari. It is a complete Namibia photography workshop combining landscape, wildlife, architecture, desert, coast and night photography.

A Real Photography Workshop, Not Just a Tour
This Namibia Photo Tour is designed as a field-based photography workshop.
You will receive guidance throughout the journey, both in the field and during image review sessions when possible. The goal is to help each participant improve their way of seeing, composing and editing images.
During the workshop, we will work on:
how to build stronger landscape compositions;
how to use light to create mood and depth;
how to simplify complex scenes;
how to photograph iconic places with a personal vision;
how to create emotional impact in landscape photography;
how to choose the right gear for each scene;
how to photograph wildlife in a landscape-oriented way;
how to plan images around sunrise, sunset, blue hour and night skies;
how to develop a consistent portfolio from a travel experience.
The teaching approach is practical, personal and adapted to the level of each participant.
Whether you are an advanced amateur or an experienced photographer, the goal is to help you return home with stronger images and a clearer creative direction.
Namibia Photo Tour itinerary
This itinerary has been designed to offer a complete photographic experience of Namibia, combining the country’s most iconic locations with a strong variety of subjects: wildlife, desert landscapes, granite mountains, coastal atmosphere, ghost towns, ancient trees and night skies.
Please note that the itinerary may be adjusted depending on weather, road conditions, lodge availability, park regulations, photography permits and the best photographic opportunities. Flexibility is essential in Namibia, and the schedule will always be optimized for light and field conditions whenever possible.
Day 1 — Arrival in Windhoek
Arrival in Windhoek, Namibia’s capital. Transfer to the hotel and time to rest after the international flight.
In the evening, we will have a welcome meeting and introduction to the photography workshop. We will go through the itinerary, photographic goals, recommended equipment, safety notes and the creative approach of the tour.
This first evening is also an opportunity to prepare for the journey ahead and discuss how to build a strong and cohesive Namibia portfolio.
Overnight in Windhoek.
Photography focus: preparation, portfolio goals and introduction to the workshop.
Day 2 — Windhoek to Etosha National Park
After breakfast, we begin our journey north towards Etosha National Park, one of Africa’s most remarkable wildlife destinations.
We will arrive in the Etosha area and settle into our lodge, ideally Okaukuejo or similar depending on availability. If time allows, we may have our first afternoon photography session in the park or around one of the waterholes.
Etosha is famous for its open landscapes, dry salt pan, waterholes and wildlife moving through dust and golden light.
Overnight in Etosha, Okaukuejo Lodge or similar.
Photography focus: first wildlife opportunities, environmental compositions and preparation for the following morning safari.
Day 3 — Etosha National Park
We start early for a sunrise safari in Etosha National Park.
This day is dedicated to wildlife photography in one of Namibia’s most iconic natural areas. We will look for elephants, giraffes, zebras, antelopes, lions and other species depending on sightings and conditions.
The goal is not only to document animals, but to create atmospheric images: wildlife in its environment, silhouettes, dust, behavior, movement and scale. Etosha’s open spaces are perfect for clean backgrounds, graphic compositions and storytelling wildlife photography.
Overnight in Etosha, Okaukuejo Lodge or similar.
Photography focus: wildlife in golden light, dust, silhouettes, behavior, telephoto compositions and animals within the landscape.
Day 4 — Etosha to Spitzkoppe
After a final morning session in Etosha, we travel towards Spitzkoppe, one of Namibia’s most spectacular granite landscapes.
Spitzkoppe is often called the “Matterhorn of Namibia” and is one of the most photogenic rock formations in the country. Its arches, boulders and sculptural peaks make it a perfect location for sunset, blue hour and night photography.
In the afternoon and evening, we will work on wide-angle compositions, natural framing, foregrounds, scale and the relationship between rock formations and desert space.
If conditions allow, we may also photograph the night sky.
Overnight in a lodge near Spitzkoppe.
Photography focus: granite landscapes, arches, natural frames, sunset, blue hour and possible astrophotography.
Day 5 — Spitzkoppe Sunrise and Skeleton Coast Shipwreck
We begin the day with sunrise photography at Spitzkoppe, using the first light on the granite formations and surrounding desert.
After breakfast, we continue towards the Skeleton Coast region. This part of Namibia offers a completely different atmosphere: ocean fog, desert textures, empty roads, coastal silence and the feeling of land meeting the Atlantic Ocean.
We will photograph a selected shipwreck location chosen for its visual and storytelling potential. This is one of the more distinctive parts of the itinerary, adding a stronger sense of mystery and uniqueness to the tour.
Overnight in the Skeleton Coast / coastal region.
Photography focus: shipwreck atmosphere, coastal desert, fog, textures, storytelling and remote landscapes.
Day 6 — Skeleton Coast to Sossusvlei
After a morning session along the coast or nearby desert landscapes, we begin the scenic journey towards the Namib Desert and the Sossusvlei area.
This is one of the most visually powerful transitions of the tour: from the Atlantic coast to vast desert plains, gravel roads, mountains and endless horizons.
We arrive near Sossusvlei and prepare for the following morning in one of the most iconic photographic locations on Earth.
Overnight near Sossusvlei / Sesriem.
Photography focus: desert roads, vast landscapes, travel storytelling and preparation for Deadvlei.
Day 7 — Sossusvlei and Deadvlei
Early departure for Sossusvlei and Deadvlei.
This is one of the most important photography days of the entire tour. The combination of white clay pan, black ancient trees, red dunes and deep shadows creates one of the strongest natural color palettes in the world.
We will work carefully on composition, rhythm, negative space, contrast, abstraction and storytelling. The goal is to go beyond the classic postcard image and create photographs with personal interpretation and emotional impact.
Having two nights in the Sossusvlei area gives us more flexibility and a better chance to work with different light, shadows and conditions.
Overnight near Sossusvlei / Sesriem.
Photography focus: Deadvlei, red dunes, ancient trees, minimalism, shadow, contrast and composition.
Day 8 — Sossusvlei Dunes and Desert Abstracts
A second day in the Sossusvlei area allows us to return to the desert landscapes with a different approach.
Depending on conditions, we may photograph dunes, desert textures, trees, abstract patterns, telephoto landscapes, wide views or intimate details. This extra time is essential for photographers because the light changes quickly and the same subject can produce completely different images depending on time of day, wind, shadows and atmosphere.
After the photography session, we begin the journey towards the Lüderitz / Kolmanskop area, or stay according to the final logistics and road conditions.
Overnight in the Lüderitz / Kolmanskop area or en route, depending on the final confirmed schedule.
Photography focus: dunes, abstract desert, telephoto landscapes, color, form and transition to ghost-town photography.
Day 9 — Kolmanskop Ghost Town
Today we photograph Kolmanskop, one of the most surreal abandoned places in Africa.
This former diamond-mining town has been slowly reclaimed by the Namib Desert. Sand-filled rooms, peeling colors, broken windows and soft light create extraordinary opportunities for interior photography, details and visual storytelling.
We will work on mood, framing, light, lines, textures, color contrast and the relationship between human traces and nature. Kolmanskop is one of the most powerful locations in Namibia for creating images with atmosphere and narrative depth.
Overnight in the Lüderitz / Kolmanskop area.
Photography focus: abandoned architecture, sand-filled rooms, window light, textures, framing and storytelling.
Day 10 — Kolmanskop Second Session and Quiver Tree Forest
A second session in the Kolmanskop area gives us another opportunity to work with interiors, light and composition. This extra time is valuable because different rooms work better at different hours, and the location offers endless possibilities for personal interpretation.
After the morning photography session, we travel towards the Quiver Tree Forest area.
In the afternoon and evening, we begin photographing the sculptural trees at sunset and blue hour. If skies are clear and conditions are favorable, we may also work on night photography and Milky Way compositions.
Overnight near the Quiver Tree Forest.
Photography focus: Kolmanskop interiors, visual storytelling, quiver tree silhouettes, sunset, blue hour and possible astrophotography.
Day 11 — Quiver Tree Forest Sunrise and Return to Windhoek
We start the day with sunrise photography at the Quiver Tree Forest.
The sculptural shapes of the trees are perfect for silhouettes, graphic compositions and atmospheric desert images. We will focus on finding clean compositions among complex natural forms, using the trees as subjects, frames and foregrounds.
After the morning session, we begin the return journey to Windhoek.
This final travel day is also a moment to reflect on the variety of images created during the tour: wildlife, desert, coast, abandoned architecture, granite landscapes, night skies and ancient trees.
Overnight in Windhoek.
Photography focus: quiver trees, silhouettes, graphic compositions, final sunrise session and portfolio reflection.
Day 12 — Departure from Windhoek
Departure day.
Participants return home with a diverse portfolio from one of the most visually powerful countries on Earth: Etosha’s wildlife, Spitzkoppe’s granite formations, the Skeleton Coast atmosphere, Deadvlei’s ancient trees, Sossusvlei’s dunes, Kolmanskop’s sand-filled rooms and the sculptural silhouettes of the Quiver Tree Forest.
End of the Namibia Photo Tour.
Photography focus: departure and final image selection mindset.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this tour suitable for non-professional photographers?
Yes. This workshop is built for passionate amateurs and experienced photographers alike. The teaching is adapted to each participant's level, so whether you want to master the fundamentals of landscape composition or refine an advanced personal style, you'll receive guidance that fits where you are. What matters is a genuine interest in landscape and travel photography and a willingness to be in the field early and late for the best light. Complete beginners with no camera experience are the only case where a different starting point may be recommended, so feel free to contact us if you're unsure.
Will Isabella Tabacchi and Alex Wides personally guide the workshop?
Yes. Both Isabella Tabacchi and Alex Wides lead the entire tour in person, supported by local guides for logistics and driving. With two award-winning photographers accompanying a maximum of 12 participants, you get a real 6-to-1 ratio and personal attention at every location, from composition in the field to editing sessions during the trip.
Do I need special equipment?
You don't need professional-level gear, but a camera that allows manual control and interchangeable lenses will get the most out of the locations. A sturdy tripod is essential for sunrise, blue hour and night photography. A wide-angle lens and a telephoto zoom cover most situations, from vast desert scenes to wildlife in Etosha. After booking, we send a detailed gear and packing guide with specific recommendations for each part of the itinerary, so you arrive fully prepared.
Are there long driving distances?
Yes. Namibia is a vast country and distances between locations are significant, so some days include several hours on the road. We use comfortable private transport and plan the route to make the most of the travel days, with photo stops along the way whenever the landscape and light are worth it. The reward for the driving is the variety: wildlife, desert, coast, ghost towns, granite mountains and night skies, all in a single journey.
Do I need travel insurance?
Yes. Comprehensive travel insurance is required for this tour. We strongly recommend a policy that covers medical expenses, emergency evacuation, trip cancellation and your photography equipment. Namibia is a remote destination, and proper insurance ensures peace of mind for you and for the group.
Can I bring a drone to Namibia?
We recommend against planning your photography around a drone on this tour. Drones are strictly prohibited in Namibia's national parks and protected areas, including Etosha, Sossusvlei, Deadvlei and the Skeleton Coast, which are core locations of this itinerary. At the Etosha gate, drones must be declared and are held in storage until you exit. Flying elsewhere requires NCAA authorization, written landowner permission for each flight, and is limited to daytime, within line of sight. Because of these restrictions, a drone will not be usable at the main photographic locations of the tour, and we cannot guarantee any drone flying opportunities. If you still wish to bring one, you are responsible for all permits and for complying with local regulations. For aerial photography, we suggest the optional scenic flight instead (see below), which is the legal and far more rewarding way to photograph these landscapes from above.
Is there an option for aerial photography from a plane?
Yes. A scenic flight over the dunes and desert can be arranged as an optional add-on, at an additional cost, for participants who want to photograph these landscapes from the air, which is the legal alternative to a drone in Namibia's protected areas. Because it depends on how many participants are interested, as well as on weather and local availability, it cannot be guaranteed in advance. We'll gauge interest within the group during the tour and organize it when conditions allow. If aerial photography is a priority for you, let us know when you book so we can plan for it.
Will there be image reviews or editing sessions?
When time and logistics allow, we may include informal image reviews or discussions during the tour. The main focus will be field instruction, composition guidance and creative decision-making on location. Any editing or review sessions will depend on the final schedule and energy of the group.
Do I need visa for Namibia?
For most of our participants, yes. Since 1 April 2025 Namibia has ended visa-free entry for many nationalities, so travelers from the United States, Australia and most of Europe now need a tourist visa. The good news is that it's straightforward: you can apply online in advance through Namibia's official e-Visa / Visa-on-Arrival system, and the authorities strongly recommend doing so before departure to avoid delays at entry. Visit eservices.mhaiss.gov.na for more information. A few nationalities remain visa-exempt for stays up to 90 days, including Hong Kong (SAR).
Because these rules changed recently and can change again, always confirm the current requirements for your passport on the official Namibian Ministry of Home Affairs e-services portal, or with the nearest Namibian embassy, well before booking flights.
Everyone needs a passport valid for at least six months beyond entry, with at least three blank pages, and a valid return ticket. If you're unsure, contact us and we'll point you to the right official source.
Do we get special access to the parks and locations?
We're honest about this: no photographer can guarantee exclusive or after-hours permits at Namibia's most protected sites, and anyone promising it should be questioned. What makes the difference at iconic locations like Deadvlei and Kolmanskop is not a special pass, but knowing exactly where to stand, at what time, and how to compose to create images that look like yours rather than the usual postcard. That local and creative knowledge, from two award-winning photographers working beside you, is what this tour is built on.
What should I expect from this photo tour?
Expect a genuine field-based photography workshop, not a sightseeing trip with a camera. You'll photograph Namibia's most extraordinary locations at the best light, receive personal guidance on composition and creative decisions in the field, and take part in editing sessions to refine your work. You'll travel in a small group with two photographers dedicated to your growth, and return home with a diverse, personal portfolio spanning wildlife, desert, coast, ghost towns, granite landscapes and night skies. Above all, expect to come back seeing light and composition differently. .
Testimonials of our Photo Tours
Meet Your Guides
Two award-winning photographers. Two distinct visions. One tour.
Most photography tours are built around a single teacher. On this one, you learn from two, each with a different eye, a different technique, and a different way of seeing the same desert. You leave not with one style copied, but with two toolkits and your own vision sharpened. Both of us are with you the entire trip, which means a real 6 to 1 ratio and genuine one to one time at every location.
Isabella Tabacchi
Emotional nature photographer
Isabella is an internationally awarded landscape photographer known for an emotional, dreamlike style that turns familiar landscapes into images that feel alive. She is a Fujifilm GFX Ambassador and official X-Photographer.
Her work has earned third place at the International Landscape Photographer of the Year (ILPOTY) in both 2020 and 2023, the title of Photographer of the Year at the Moscow International Foto Awards (MIFA), and recognition at the Siena Awards, Xposure Awards and the DJI SkyPixel contest. Her images have been published by National Geographic, the BBC, Forbes and The Times, among others.
But awards are only half the story. What past participants remember is her teaching: patient, generous, and focused on your growth, not her own shots. On tour she coaches composition on location, runs editing sessions to refine the images you actually take, and shares the presets and post processing method behind her signature look, so you go home able to finish your photographs, not just capture them.
Alex Wides
Panoramic photographer
Alex is a landscape photographer specialized in extreme panoramic photography, ultra wide fields of view of 180°, 270° and even 360° that capture an entire environment in a single frame. Since 2018 he has built a signature style around this technique, refined over years of expeditions, climbs and nights in the field. He studied portraiture and landscape technique with some of the genre's most respected names, and his panoramic work has been internationally recognized, including winner at the Epson International Pano Awards 2025, along with awards at the MUSE Photography Awards, the Siena Awards and the Memorial Maria Luisa.
Where Isabella works in emotion and detail, Alex works in scale and geometry: how to read a vast space, balance elements across an enormous field of view, and build panoramas that feel three dimensional. It's a genuinely different skill set, and in a place like Namibia, where the landscape is bigger than any single frame, it's exactly the second perspective that changes how you shoot.
What you take from Alex: the technique to capture the immensity of the desert, wide, balanced, and impossible to fit in an ordinary photograph.
